Aidpage Open Letter: Homeless means no place to sleep in Salem Oregon

To the attention of:

Barack Obama, US President;
John Kitzhaber, Governor of Oregon;
US Senators from Oregon: Jeff Merkley, Ron Wyden;
US Representatives from Oregon: David Wu, Earl Blumenauer, Greg Walden, Kurt Schrader, Peter A. DeFazio;
------------------------------------

Homeless People In Salem Oregon Are On A Merry-Go-Round.

What is a Homeless person, are their needs the same as ours, Can they really find work?

Hello, I am the founder of Reach 4 Salem; being homeless for over three years and I feel blessed by God. I have seen situations of hopelessness’; theft, bodily harm, hunger, sickness, lack of money for x-rays, operations, prescriptions and a place to sleep. Not all Homeless People drink or take drugs or are bad, most are only trying to survive. Other Homeless people would love to find work and get out of the streets.

Living in the street is not easy, you are forced to carry your necessities in your back pack or have them stolen. Ride a bicycle or walk, live in a tent, under an awning or cardboard, inside an abandon car, walk all night to keep warm. The Homeless people can not get a job without the proper clothing, transportation, resume, shower or clean clothes.  I have two part time jobs and still I have to sleep in my car. Both of my part time jobs do not have a consistent pay-check every two weeks to cover rent and pay bills.

Finding a job is getting harder in our economy today, even if you have reliable transportation, daily shower, groomed and proper clean clothing. The employment centers are very over crowded, and so are the temp agencies. Anybody can become homeless, especially if you are living from paycheck to paycheck. I do not fly a sigh although I know plenty of Homeless that do. Flying a sigh is very long and tedious work. It is an all day job, or normally you have enough for your purpose or it’s the necks Homeless persons turn. Then you have the scammers in the parking lot or in the stores that gives you a story, this is illegal. Then you have some of the Homeless with a cell phone these people are usually users (hooked on drugs). So how do you know witch person flying a sign; is in need of basic needs such as, rent, gas, food, or a drink? You would have to get to know them.

Who can help the Homeless to get off the streets and into a job? The basic need of a Homeless person is shelter, sleeping bag, underwear, socks and shoes. Food is supplied from Shelters, or what we call an outside feeding, put on by Churches, and Organizations.

The Homeless are everywhere; we see, hear, help and, protect each other. Being Homeless is a no win situation with out help. The Homeless need help that will create jobs such as a civilian training camp that can help our economy by bringing back Mom and Pop stores. www.reach4salem.orghas the formula. Only In America

Holy Crap. I'm so sick of being like this. I have some pliers.........not. The thought has crossed my mind. I have three teeth that are very loose. I might be able to......not......

I think I may have to move onto the streets or commit a crime so I can get my teeth fixed. The amount of people who have told me that they got their teeth fixed while they were serving time astounds me. I have to be completely destitute or in jail to get someone to help me with my teeth. Or sit here and die. ......Only in America.

I don't know what to do. I got scammed by someone now I'm facing jail time and have a $4000 debt to repay. I was sent a letter in the mail along with a check telling me that i was hired for a mystery shopper job. I was told to cash the check then wire most of the money western union back to them. After that was done i was to fill out an evaluation about my experience with western union and mail it back. It sounded legit. I had been filling out countless applications for all kinds of work at home, mystery shopper and every other job I could apply for. Unfortunalely I fell for it. I thought I had finally found a job even though mystery shopping is only part time it's a lot better than nothing. So I took the check to my bank they cashed it without any problems. A week later the check bounced leaving me responsible for everything. Now Attorneys are giving me notices that their about to turn it over to the police charging me with felony grand theft and who knows what else unless I pay the money back to the bank. I've been trying with no success to find a job and get my life back together. Now it looks like my desperation and nieveness is about to cost me my freedom and my future. All because I can't find work and have no one to help me.

standing up for disabled people

what is the deal with society now?  i read about an 18 year old mentally challanged boy who was sentenced to 100 years in jail for sexual conduct.  what is wrong  with this picture?  just because he is disabled, he should not get away with the charge.  but i do believe that it is wrong for him to be sentenced 100 years, when our society helped make him that away.  kids go to school and bully these disabled kids and the schools do nothing, the parents do nothing, so don't you think that we are to blame.  these kids go to school to get an education just like any other kids, just cause there is something wrong with them, doesn't mean that they should be looked down on.  and sentencing a 18 year old boy that has the mind of a 6 or 7 year old to 100 years in jail is wrong.  especially when the rest of society might only get 5 to 10 years.  i know people that have sexually assaulted kids, (even there own kids) and only got 90 days in jail and 10 years probation.  my father raped me for several years and all he got was 4 hours of counseling, i got put in a foster home and sent back to his house when i graduated high school.  so  does anyone out there feel the way i do?  i have a 19 year old disabled son, that i have raised on my own.  i have watched kids bully him all through school and get away with it.  but yet he has gotten in trouble for bullying a kid.  i have even heard teachers and principals bully these kids and treat them as if they have a contigous disease.  like they are nothing.  society needs to stand up for these kids and find other places for them than in our prison system where they will be bullied again or killed.   SO LET'S START STANDING UP FOR THEM AND MAKING OUR VOICES HEARD!!!!!!

About jcporter81

It was nice to see that I'm not the only one dealing with issues right now that seem too overwhelming for any one person to deal with. Unfortunately, knowing that I'm not alone won't help me deal with my current situation........

I am an 8 year Army veteran who is going to school full time.  Up until tuesday (04/21/09)  I was on the track to finally leading a stable and comfortable life.  However, on that fateful day I was involved in a 4 car wreck and found out that  my less-than-one-month old car wasn't insured under my family's insurance policy.  Here's the details on that: After purchasing my vehicle, I called the insurance agent that handles my father's insurance policy looking to get a quote for how much it would cost to get insurance on my own and no longer be under his plan.  (I'm 28 and have been under his plan due to the fact that it has always been cheaper and easy to deal with)  Well, when she called back to give me the quote on my car, she told me that I was still covered under my father's insurance.  I told her that, since I'm still covered and money is tight at the moment, that I'd just let her know if I wanted to change things.  Well, when the accident happened, I had the cops call the insurance company since I hadn't gotten an insurance card from them yet in the mail.  When they called, this women told them that, since only my name was on the title, the vehicle wasn't insured.  (Something she failed to mention earlier and, if she had, I obviously would have gotten my car covered!)

So now I am facing court on May 20th for driving without insurance, which means a fine and possible license suspension.  (No license = No way to/from school/work) On top of that,  the two checks that I had post dated to the dealership for my downpayments on the car bounced. (both for $750 each)  I am now worried that they will take this matter to the police and I will be arrested and jailed.  I also have an apartment that I have to pay rent for ($775 a month) and child support ($500 a month)  that I have to worry about.  In august, my G.I. Bill payments will increase from $1709 a month to $3200 a month but, that is still months away and I have yet to find any other kind of employment to help me pay for all of this debt.  (Believe me, I am applying everywhere!  I will do any kind of work, as long as it pays......)

I am not a bad person.  I got good grades in high-school and served honorably in the Army for 8 years.  I keep up a good GPA in college and have never gotten in any kind of trouble that was bigger than a speeding ticket. (Until now)  Through some simple misunderstandings and a bad bit of account balancing on my part, I'm now facing eviction and homelessness and/or jail time.  Please, please, please, I have never asked anyone anything of this magnitude but, is there anyone out there in the world who thinks that they might be able to offer up some advice or something more to help me get out of this situation?  Or, even help get me out of this hole and point my life in the general direction that it was once heading?

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.  I hope that the next time I post something on here, it'll be talking about how I made it through this terrifying mess and, that things are starting to settle back down to normal.

Need help! I feel desperate. Our family always did okay. We lived paycheck to paycheck and went without the extras, but that was alright. We always found an honest way to get by. Now, I am unsure how that is going to happen. Power company wants payment and we are scheduled for disconnect and we are 2 months behind on rent. Things were fine until are daughter got in legal trouble and was given 90 days in jail. She is a single mother. We are raising her child, my grandchild,  while she is gone. This has ghretaly affected the number of hours I have been putting in at work. My husband has always worked but got fired when a new manager came in and he has been trying to make it on side jobs while looking for full-time empoyment. I know if we can get through till my daughter is released we will be okay. I am unsure how to do that. The father of the baby is not an option for babysitting and has a warrant out for unpaid child support. There is no money left in the states emergency funds, I asked. There is no one to ask for help. My father is a widower and my mother-in-law is a widow, both living on fixed income and not close in distance. We recieved no tax refund this year, and have no other money coming in. We both try so hard. Even being broke we volunteer with the area resuce service and fire department. We just need temporary help. Any ideas? Any known resources? I am not used to asking for help and my pride has taken a blow. The welfare of my family is a much bigger concern though.

Please help Struggling to change my life

Hello I am a 32 year old male my name is Nathan I am trying to raise my stepson alone my wife is in jail on a 5 year sentence for getting involved with drugs.

I have recently been evicted from my trailer and my mom has used most of her retirement up helping me and other members of my family. She is trying to get disability but been denied 2 times already she can arely get around the house and I help her with chores and errends she needs.

I had quit my job at hardees and move because of the eviction and move near my mom I have been paying child support for 3 children that I am not even able to see. I used to make double the money I was recently making and the state is dragging there feet on getting a court date to get my support lowered I am trying to get my wife into a rehab so she can get out of jail quicker because me and my son love and miss her so much and I think she really needs help.Most of the rehabs that she can get into either cost too much or they are short term ahe needs at least a 6 month program the best one I found for us is going to run about 3,200. I am not sure how I am going to keep food on the table let alone help her. The state just moved her more then 3 hours away making it hard to visit her my car is on its last legs and I cant afford car insurance,I have no home phone so she cant call collect even.

I have never asked anyone for help like this I am just so scared for my family if there is anyone that can help please e-mail me at drgn1975@yahoo.com

God Bless You

I'M SINKING

I'M SINKING

PLEASE HELP ME, I AM SINKING FAST !!! I AM ABOUT TO GO TO JAIL IF I DO NOT PAY THE DMV $13,000.00 IN FINES.

I was required to drive for my job. I lost my job because I was stopped, and arrested because my driving privileges are revoked for unpaid tickets.

 Now, I have no money because I am not working, and I can’t get new work because now I have a criminal record. I am truly stuck between a rock and a hardplace. I am desperate.

If I pay the DMV $13,000.00 in fines, I will  be able to show the Prosecutor that I have settled my debt to the State, and will possibly avoid jail time. In addition, I would   be able to explain my criminal record to potential employers and possibly get a job.

(The fines are so high because the some tickets are $1,0000.00 each and the penalty is an additional $1,000.00).

-I can’t get a loan because I have no income, nor collateral.

-I can’t drive because my license is suspended.

-I can’t get work because now I have a criminal record.

-I am facing jail time and a blemish on my record and no job opportunities.

-I am also about to lose my residence because I am not working, and can't pay the bills.

I would truly appreciate any financial donations, a loan, or information that can lead me in the right direction, to help me with the terrible situation I am in.

Thank you.
